Types of massage

Swedish

Recommended at least once a month.

Originating in Europe, this Western style of massage is concerned with soothing and calming the client. This massage is best suited to individuals who want to be completely relaxed, as opposed to those suffering with specific aches and pains. A full body Swedish massage takes approximately 1 hour and will include the legs, feet, arms, shoulders and back. (Abdominal region on request). Pressure is firm unless otherwise requested.

The massage will focus on lymphatic drainage and boosting blood circulation around the entire body. Through kneading, squeezing and tapping the muscles waste products within the muscle will be released and pushed towards the various lymphatic nodes to be broken down. At the same time blood flow to the various muscles will be increased. The result is a detoxing effect on the body. Clients often claim to walk away feeling lighter!

Deep Tissue

Recommended fortnightly.

This is a deep, more specific massage usually focusing on one area of the body such as the back. It is fantastic for people with problem areas needing attention, but also an excellent preventative measure against stiff inflexible muscles. A great one for general back maintenance.

Usually between 30-45 minutes long, this massage includes all of the same movements and intentions as Swedish massage but will focus on specific problem areas as they are uncovered- with much slower deeper movements.

Thumbs, knuckles and wrists are used to apply pressure to areas of stress and tension. An element of discomfort during the massage is normal when stubborn areas are worked upon. This is completely within the client’s control as communication with the masseuse is encouraged to ensure the right amount of pressure is applied at all times.

Any discomfort experienced a day or so after the massage is due to the movement of previously stagnant muscle tissue and will subside within 48 hours. The result is a greater range of motion and supple, more efficient muscles.
