How does massage work?

The pressure of the masseur’s hands draws blood to the area being worked on. This supplies the muscle with oxygen and nutrients ‘bringing it back to life’.

Swedish massage uses tapotement techniques such as ‘hacking ‘and   ‘cupping’ in order to bring blood right up to the surface of the skin.

Through squeezing and kneading, accumulated waste from within the muscle is released and can be  pushed towards the lymphatic nodes to be broken down.

This creates a detoxing effect  and leaves the muscles feeling ‘lighter’ and ‘cleaner’.

Massage releases tension within the muscle enabling it’s fibres and fascia to relax.  As the tissue gradually warms the masseur is able to go  deeper into the muscle.  Here, knots and scar tissue can be flattened and muscle fibres can be guided back in the correct direction, allowing blood to flow freely again.

This results in healthier, supple muscles and freer moving joints with an increased range of motion.
